Freeview Televisions

Welcome to the Freeview page, Freeview is the free service that offers access to digital television in the UK and so if you wish to keep receiving free television then you will need to switch to Freeview before the analogue television system is turned off.

To get Freeview you need a Freeview digital tuner which receives the digital television signal and sends it to your television. There are several ways of getting a Freeview digital tuner and the easiest and cheapest is the set top box which is a small electronic device (very much like a DVD player in appearance) which has a Freeview digital tuner and sits on or below your television. There are also televisions that have a Freeview digital tuner built in and we have several pages on these televisions such as the LCD and Plasma televisions with a Freeview digital tuner built in.

The set top boxes are a very cheap and easy option as they will work with your current television (you may need an ariel upgrade but this is unusual) and they are also very cheap. There are lots of these Freeview set top boxes listed on the right and we have listed them with the cheapest first so it is easy to find a cheap Freeview set top box here. The Freeview set top boxes are also easy to use; you simply plug the ariel into the Freeview set top box and then with a scart lead connect the Freeview set top box to the television and once you have connected the power you are ready to go. You then use the remote control that comes with the Freeview set top box to change the channels and these can often also control the television which can make things easier.

There are also televisions that have a Freeview digital tuner built in which is great if you are buying a new television as there is no need for a set top box. Televisions that have Freeview built in will feature the image on the right so when you see this image you know that the television can receive digital television. There are many reasons for switching to Freeview such as the superior picture and sound quality and the many more channels, these extra channels include BBC3, BBC4, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, E4, More4, Sky3 and many other specialist channels such as documentary, news, lifestyle, children's and music channels. These specialist channels are great as you know what kind of programs will be on all of the time and they also provide great entertainment for kids with the specialist children's channels.
